 As Uruguay’s cultural, political and
economical center, Montevideo boasts monuments, museums and impressive
architecture. There are sidewalk cafés, fine Croisieress, chic shops,
casinos, and miles of clean beaches.

Pier Information
The ship is scheduled to dock at the Port of Montevideo. It is about a
10-minute taxi ride to the center of town. Metered taxis are usually
available at the pier. Drivers frequently charge cruise passengers a
flat rate from the pier to popular destinations. |
Shopping
Avenida 18 de Julio is Montevideo's main thoroughfare, with shops and
Croisieress. Leather goods and gemstones, particularly amethyst, topaz
and agate, are considered good buys. Hand-knit sweaters, blankets and
throws are also popular. |
Cuisine
Asado is a typical local barbecue with different varieties of meat. The
specialty is always beef; with seafood close behind. |

Other Sights
Palacio Municipal. Get a sweeping view of the entire city from
the 11th-floor terrace of the City Hall, located on Avenida 18 de Julio.
La Carreta. This monument of a covered wagon pulled by oxen is
one of the famous sculptures that enhance many of Montevideo's parks.
Please Note: Beware of pickpockets and purse snatchers. Do not
wear valuable jewelry or carry much cash.
